FIELD TRIP

We haven't even had our first book club meeting yet ... but we can't miss this opportunity.
Check this out:

Mon May 5, 2008
Ron & Denver will be speaking in Grapevine. The event will be held in the main gymnasium of Grapevine Middle School, 301 Pony Parkway in Grapevine, TX. The event is sponsored by "Students Standing Strong" Contact Lori Atkeisson at Lori.Atkeisson@gcisd.net for further information. Starting time is 6:30 pm and a booksigning will follow. Desserts and drinks will be offered also.

I took the liberty, as a representative of Fa La La Book Club, of emailing the above person and got this response:

Tina,
No, tickets aren't required, but you may want to arrive early to get a good seat. We will be selling books for $20 or you can bring your own copy. Hope to see you there!
Lori Atkeisson

I have never been one to camp out to buy front row tickets or spend the night outside a store for a sale, (well, except for that one time when my daughter and I spent the night on the streets of Austin so that she could audition for American Idol... another story for another blog) ... but seriously ... I may pitch a tent to get a good seat for this one !!

How about y'all ... anybody else up for a field trip?

Tina and Fellow Members,

I just found out that my granddaughter's kindergarten program is the night of May 6 in Plano. I feel like I need to be there for her. However, the May 5 event sounds very interesting and I think I would be available to attend that. Please keep me in the loop if anyone is meeting beforehand and planning on attending.

Thanks,

Elaine

I don't know if you have any ideas for the next book, but I just got one that I haven't read that looks good. It is "The Secret Between Us" by Barbara Delinsky. I pick a lot of books by People Magazine recommendations and this was highly recommended.

The cover says: Deborah Monroe and her daughter, Grace, are driving home from a party when their car hits a man. Grace was at the wheel, but Deborah sends her home before the police arrive, determined to shoulder the blame for the accident. Her decision then turns into a deception that takes on a life of its own and threatens the bond between mother and daughter.

It is an unforgettable story about making bad choices for the right reasons and the terrible consequences of a lie gone wrong.

It even has discussion questions in the back. The back cover says, Reading Groups: If your group is reading "The Secret Between Us" and would like to be considered for a visit from Barbara Delinsky, either in person or by phone, please email . . .
